Recent images from Willamette Stage Company’s newest production. This show opened June 10, 2011, in Corvallis, Oregon. A beautiful show.

Theatre Photography

I’ve taken tens of thousands of images during productions of live theatre shows over the last decade, including performances at Albany Civic Theater, and more recently, Willamette Stage Company. Here is a small sampling of those images. [Read more...]

Illustrations Using Photography

This gallery contains some of the ways I have used photography to create illustrations, for use in advertising and promotion. The photograph can be more manipulated or less. What makes it an illustration for me is that it is intended to communicate ideas without using words.

All of these illustrations were done for Willamette Stage Company in Corvallis.

Illustration for "Frozen"

Cold, dark, and threatening is the tone, but this was intended to also convey the other sense of the word "frozen", or stuck, immobile, not able to move or change. This is actually a composite image. I originally took Robert's photo through a piece of ice that I made in a cookie sheet. That proved to be too opaque to make out the face clearly. So I superimposed a photo of his face taken from the same angle. I think this image worked quite well.

A main promo image for Willamette Stage Company's production of "A Walk in the Woods." The image tries to communicate the prickly but close relationship between two arms negotiators.

Illustration for Albee's "A Delicate Balance"

Willamette Stage Company performed Edward Albee's "A Delicate Balance", this is the main promotional image. The intent was to imply the various relationships between the characters, and how each was kept "in their own box."

This play was about the head-to-head confrontation that is the story told in this play.

Scrooge of course, but Scrooge at a younger age than he's portrayed in the typical production. This version tracks his development from a young man, through a period of increasing isolation and bitterness, finally showing him rejoin humanity.
